7 July 1904 : Theodor Herzl is laid to rest at the Döblinger Friedhof in Vienna. Thousands of Jews take part in the funeral procession. In his will Herzl asks that his body be buried next to his father, "to remain there until the Jewish people will carry my remains to Palestine."
16 August 1949: Herzl's remains are transferred to Jerusalem and reburied on Mount Herzl. |
